Joel, Business Analyst - About Life at Cloud Insurance

Joel and his fiancée, Marte.

Joel, congrats on your first anniversary at Cloud Insurance! Tell us about your role.

Thank you so much, of course! As a Business Analyst, I act as sort of a hub between tech and business. I turn customer needs into actual, tangible product features, assisting with what I can throughout the entire development cycle.

On top of that, I'm always on the lookout for any opportunity to streamline and automate processes. I like that we're constantly fine-tuning and improving how we operate.

That sounds like fun! You've worked in the insurance industry for some time; what drew you to insurtech, in the first place?

I wanted to work more with IT and not only with insurance, so joining a developing insurtech felt pretty spot on. And that goes for the organizational structure too! Joining a scale-up meant more mandate and ability to affect things while participating in many different business areas - overall a broad role with a lot of freedom.

Also, I got a good feeling about Cloud Insurance right away. Both from the company's values and the diversity of employees and customers from all over the globe.

So tell us about your first experience at Cloud Insurance. Did we live up to your expectations?

Definitely! In one word: astonishing. All of my colleagues were very welcoming from day 1, and I can honestly say it feels like a family. I've been lucky to be involved in projects and launches from the start, which is both inspiring and fun. Having said all that, even though it's my 1st anniversary, it feels like it's been at least 3 years already. Time flies when you're having fun, I suppose!

It does! What would you say has been one of your most significant achievements?

Being a part of so many projects from the get-go, I like to think that I've developed quite a deep understanding of our product and features. And that knowledge quickly translates to being able to help out the commercial team land new customers and so on. Since we have so much functionality, the word "expert" may still be stretching it a little, but…

We've talked a lot about the great work you do here, but what do you do in your time off?

I love spending time with my fiancée and our three kids. I also like to switch my focus by working out, and before COVID-19 hit, traveling was also high up on the list!

Lovely. And congrats on just becoming a dad for the third time! Does juggling WFH and changing diapers work out alright?

It's been working out very well. The most significant advantage of WFH is that I'm able to spend so much time with my newborn son, so it suits me quite well at the moment.

My son also seems to be enjoying life and is taken care of by his two older sisters, so that's wonderful! As for me, let's just say I don't have any issues filling up my leisure time!

We're so happy for you! Is there anything specific you're looking forward to now?

Work-wise we have many interesting upcoming launches with customers from all over the globe. We'll also hopefully introduce some cool features soon.

Home-wise, I'm stoked to be able to meet my friends and family more often, thanks to fewer COVID-19 restrictions. I'm also looking forward to some traveling when that's back on the table. In the meantime, we're in the process of renovating our house, and I'm looking forward to the end result!
